Over the last two decades, Guernica has gifted us—writers, readers and engaged thinkers—space to see ourselves more fully—through the imaginations, experiences and reflections of folks who often serve as fodder for gripping news headlines, but who aren’t often enough the architects of how those very stories unfold.

This matters.

We cannot imagine, much less live, our way into a more egalitarian world, without expanding our center to include the marginalized. And in a world of sharp political polarity and cynical disinformation, Guernica’s work isn’t only critical intellectual engagement, it becomes necessary sustenance.

I’m honored to call this literary community home and to serve as Guernica’s publisher. Especially in this season, I look forward to helping build a Guernica that’s alive with the messy and electric charge that is our shared humanity; a publication courageous enough to see our full complexity and offer a lighthouse illuminating our highest possibilities.
